Teacher Spotlight : Jaycee Sofich Inspiring Success at ISWA

Stories & Spotlights

At Insight School of Washington, our students thrive thanks to the dedication of teachers like Mrs. Jaycee Sofich, who expertly supports and motivates her third-grade class in the online environment. Mrs. Sofich, a Washington-certified educator, brings years of experience from both traditional and virtual classrooms, making her uniquely skilled at helping her students flourish in this dynamic learning setting.

Empowering Students in an Online Classroom

Mrs. Sofich’s journey from traditional teaching to online education reveals her commitment to flexibility and student engagement. After years of teaching in-person, Mrs. Sofich sought a change that would allow her to prioritize her well-being and her students’ needs. This brought her to Insight School of Washington, where she discovered a balanced approach that combines teaching, planning, and meaningful family interactions—all essential for student success in a virtual classroom.

In the online setting, Mrs. Sofich uses a range of interactive tools to foster a collaborative, hands-on learning experience that mimics the best aspects of in-person education. “Each year, I add new strategies to my toolkit, always aiming to make lessons engaging and interactive,” she shares. This approach encourages students to actively participate, whether through table-like discussion groups, interactive games, polls, or private messages, creating a space where every student feels heard.

Creating a Safe, Supportive Learning Environment

Mrs. Sofich understands that students may come to Insight School of Washington with previous negative experiences, and she prioritizes building a classroom culture where everyone feels secure and valued. By celebrating students’ contributions, she creates a positive environment where students feel comfortable sharing ideas. “Mistakes are a natural part of learning,” Mrs. Sofich emphasizes, nurturing a supportive atmosphere where students cheer each other on and grow together.

Partnering with Parents and Learning Coaches

At Insight School of Washington the learning coach, often a parent or guardian, plays an essential role in students’ education. Mrs. Sofich knows that a strong partnership with learning coaches positively impacts student outcomes. This relationship is initiated during the first connection call where Mrs. Sofich meets with each Learning Coach individually to discuss their student’s needs and how they can be achieved together.

Learning Coaches support students by ensuring class attendance, helping with assignments, and reinforcing learning at home—contributions that allow Mrs. Sofich to maximize her instructional time with students. This also gives Learning Coaches insight into what their student is learning and how they are progressing.

A Life Beyond Teaching

Outside the virtual classroom, Mrs. Sofich finds joy in horseback riding and barrel racing—a passion that has been a part of her life since childhood. When she’s not teaching, she’s spending time with her family and friends, often at the rodeo, and recently tied the knot with her partner, a fellow rodeo enthusiast. This balance of teaching and personal fulfillment fuels her enthusiasm in the classroom and enhances her commitment to her students.

At Insight School of Washington, teachers like Mrs. Sofich embody our mission to inspire and empower students. By creating an engaging, supportive online environment, Mrs. Sofich is not only helping her students succeed academically but also nurturing a love for learning that will carry them forward.
