From Boy Scouts to Business: Cody’s Journey at Insight School of Washington

Stories & Spotlights

Cody, a dedicated 6th grader at Insight School of Washington, has been thriving in the unique online environment that the school offers. Cody discovered Insight School of Washington in 2022 when his mother was searching for a flexible educational solution. Before joining, Cody attended a brick-and-mortar school in Port Angeles for his early education. Despite the shift from a traditional brick-and-mortar school, Cody has not only adapted but excelled in his new learning environment.

His academic journey is complemented by active participation in extracurricular activities, including SkillsUSA and Business Professionals of America at school, as well as Scouting America  and BMX racing outside of school. A typical day for Cody starts early, with breakfast followed by logging into his first class by 8 AM. His schedule is well-structured with live classes throughout the day and dedicated times for working on assignments. Mondays and Wednesdays are his busiest, while Fridays offer a lighter load focusing on assignments and leadership classes.

What sets Insight School of Washington apart for Cody is the personal attention and support from the teachers. He shares heartfelt appreciation for his teachers, like Ms. Dara Shultz, who go beyond their classroom duties to engage in activities such as Merit Badge Mondays, helping him advance in his scouting achievements.

Looking forward, Cody is enthusiastic about continuing his education with a focus on business and personal growth. He is also an avid participant in various hobbies, including camping, traveling, building Legos, drawing, and more, all of which he balances skillfully with his school responsibilities. Cody’s experience at Insight School of Washington has had a significant positive impact, challenging the common misconception that online schooling limits social interaction. He finds the school supportive and engaging, offering numerous opportunities for real-world interactions and socialization through organized activities like the Eagle Hangouts.

As Cody prepares for the 7th grade and beyond, he is excited about the opportunities that lie ahead, including the chance to attend the 2025 BPA National Leadership Conference in Orlando as a top ten finalist in V12 – Social Media Marketing Campaign Team. His journey at Insight School of Washington demonstrates how an online school can offer a robust, interactive, and supportive learning environment, proving that education can be both flexible and enriching, no matter where it takes place.
