Grecia’s Senior Year of Service and Leadership at Insight School of Washington 

In celebration of Honor Society Awareness Month, Insight School of Washington (ISWA) is proud to highlight Grecia, a 12th-grade student whose commitment to service and involvement reflects the heart of the school’s National Honor Society (NHS) chapter. 

Throughout high school, she has embraced opportunities to participate beyond the virtual classroom. In addition to NHS, Grecia is an active member of the school’s Art Club, where she has explored drawing techniques, experimented with different art styles, and discovered a personal love for coloring. Math remains her favorite subject, highlighting both her academic strengths and her dedication to learning. 

Finding Purpose in National Honor Society 

For Grecia, joining NHS was about more than recognition. It was about service and connection. 

“Being part of the National Honor Society at Insight School of Washington means a lot to me. It gives me the chance to serve my community and to help others.” 

As part of ISWA’s virtual NHS chapter, Grecia meets weekly with advisor Mrs. Melancon and fellow members on Zoom. Together, they discuss volunteer initiatives, develop new service ideas, and participate in team-building activities that strengthen their collaboration. The online structure allows students from across Washington to stay involved while balancing academics and other responsibilities. 

Small Acts, Meaningful Impact 

One project that stands out in Grecia’s NHS journey is the Love it Forward list project. Through this initiative, she wrote handwritten cards filled with encouragement for individuals and families facing serious illness, grief, and cancer diagnoses. The simple act of sending a thoughtful message became a powerful reminder of how meaningful kindness can be. 

“Even though writing a card seems like a small act, I believe it can make a big difference,” said Grecia. 

The experience not only impacted those who received the cards but also shaped Grecia’s perspective on service. She recognized that leadership does not always require grand gestures. Sometimes, consistency, empathy, and a willingness to show up for others matter most. 

Growth Beyond the Classroom 

Through her involvement in NHS, Grecia has developed valuable skills in leadership, teamwork, and time management. Balancing coursework with volunteer commitments has strengthened her organization and accountability. Collaborating with peers in a virtual environment has helped her step outside her comfort zone and build confidence. 

As she prepares to graduate, Grecia continues to look for ways to serve her community, whether through ongoing NHS projects or small acts of kindness in everyday life. Her story reflects what makes ISWA’s National Honor Society chapter unique, students who are academically driven, service-minded, and deeply connected, even in an online setting. Grecia’s senior year is a testament to the impact students can make when they combine academic excellence with heart.
